زمن الماضى المستمر
التكوين :
[was/were + present participle ( V + ing ) ]
تكوينه :يتكون من [was/were +( V + ing ) ]
لاحظ الجدول التالى جيدا :

استخدامات الزمن :
1- يستخدم هذا الزمن ليعبر عن حدث كان مستمرا لفترة فى الماضى و قام حدث آخر بقطعه ،و يكون الفعل المستمر اماضى المستمر بينما يكون الحدث الذى قطعه فى زمن الماضى البسيط .
لاحظ جيدا استخدام الروابط التالية :
ماضى بسيط ( الحدث القاطع ) + When ماضى مستمر
ماضى مستمر + ماضى بسيط When
While ماضى بسيط ( الحدث القاطع لاستمرار الحدث الأول ) + ماضى مستمرAs Just as
I was watching TV when she called.
When the phone rang, she was writing a letter.
While we were having the picnic, it started to rain.
You were not listening to me when I told you to turn the oven off.
While John was sleeping last night, someone stole his car.
Samy was waiting for us when we got off the plane.
While I was writing the email, the computer suddenly went off
.
2- يستخدم هذا الزمن أيضا للتعبير عن حدث كان مستمرا عن حدث عند نقطة معينة فى الماضى .
· Last night at 6 PM, I was eating dinner.
· At midnight, we were still driving through the desert.
· Yesterday at this time, I was sitting at my desk at work.
3- يستخدم الماضى المستمر للتعبير عن حدثين كانا مستمرين معا فى الزمن الماضى و لم يقاطع أحدهما الآخر .
لاحظ جيدا استخدام الروابط التالية :
While
ماضى مستمر + ماضى مستمر As
Just as
· I was studying (as, while, just as) he was making dinner.
· (As, While, Just as) she was reading, her brother was watching television.
· Were you listening (as, while, just as) he was talking?
· I wasn't paying attention (as, while, just as) I was writing the letter, so I made several mistakes.
· They were eating dinner, discussing their plans, and having a good time
النفى :
ينفى الماضى المستمر بوضع not بعد was أو were ، للأمثلة شاهد الجدول السابق
الاستفهام :
يقدم الفعل المساعد was أو were على الفاعل ، للأمثلة اطلع على الجدول السابق
The Past Continuous Tense in the Passive .
زمن الماضى المستمر فى المبنى للمجهول .
Object المفعول +(was – were ) +being + P.P
· Active : The salesman was helping the customer.
· Passive : The customer was being helped by the salesman.
· Active : They were playing a lot of games .
· Passive : A lot of games were being played by them
